The Influence of Family Violence and School Violence on Suicidal Impulses in Adolescents

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze suicidal impulses of adolescents influenced by family violence and school violence. The subjects in this study were 4,757 adolescents from middle and high school students in Gwangju. The findings of the study were as follows: Firstly, for the past year, 31.1% of all the respondents had experienced suicidal impulses and 51.1% of them had witnessed marital violence. 25.8% had experienced parental violence, 20.8% had inflicted school violence, and 22.3% had been victimized by it. Secondly, this research showed a correlation between suicidal impulses and gender of adolescents, witness of marital violence, parental violence, infliction and victimization of school violence. Thirdly, logistic regression analysis showed that the influential variables significantly were gender, grade, witness of marital violence, parental violence, victimization of school violence and the most influential one was victimization of school violence. Specifically, when they were female, higher graders, witness marital violence more often, and suffer from more parental violence and school violence, they had felt more suicidal impulses. And it had been found that when victimization of school violence increase 1 unit, suicidal impulses increase 2.78 times more.
